About Bernedoodles

Bernedoodles are a wonderful cross of a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. They blend the wonderful traits from both breeds. Bernese are loyal , loving and more laid back. Poodles are intelligent , playful and loving. My bernese like to go for our daily walks while my poodle jogs.  Bernedoodles are all different and can be more laid back like the Bernese or have a little more energy like the poodle.  So far most of our Bernedoodles are great swimmers and love water but this could also change with each puppy.

By mixing the two you will get a puppy/dog that sheds less. A 50/50 cross will likely have a little to no shedding.  For families with allergies an f1b Bernedoodle is usually best.

A few of our previous puppies are being used as service dogs. They are very intelligent and train fairly easy. They are wonderful companions and will be ready to go with you everywhere.

Bernedoodles will need grooming and brushed regularly. If not brushed they will become extremely matted. They need to be brushed at least twice a week  and groomed every 6 - 10 weeks. You'll want to consider this before adding a Bernedoodle to your family.

Since this is a newer breed we can only estimate the lifespan.  We estimate standard and mediums 10-13 years and mini 12-15 years. Again this is only an estimate.

The terms many breeders use to refer to their Bernedoodles is a study of genetics.

First Generation Bernedoodle - F1      A first generation Bernedoodle is a Bernese Mtn Dog and a Poodle  a 50/50 genetic makeup. They will be low to no shedding. They are good for a family with mild allergies.

Bernedoodle Generation - F1b     This is a result of the purposeful crossing back of the F1 Bernedoodle to a Poodle.  Genetic makeup 75% Poodle / 25% Bernese Mtn Dog. This produces a very low to non shedding coat. This generation is more likely suited for a family with allergies.

Bernedoodle Generation - F1b (reverse)   This is a result of the purposeful crossing back of the F1 Bernedoodle to a Bernese Mtn Dog. Genetic makeup 75% Bernese Mtn Dog / 25% Poodle. This produces a  lower shedding coat. This generation isn't good for a family with allergies.

Bernedoodle Generation - F2  This is a result of the purposeful crossing back of the F1 Bernedoodle to an F1 Bernedoodle. This can produce Furnished and Unfurnished puppies. An f2 can also have different types of coats both lite shedding and non shedding.

Bernedoodle Multi Generation - F2b  This is a result of the purposeful crossing back of the F1 Bernedoodle to an F1b Bernedoodle. This produces a low to non shedding coat.

MoBerner Bernedoodle Also Known as an Ultra Bernedoodle - F1bb (reverse)   This is a result of the purposeful crossing back an f1b Bernedoodle with a Bernese Mtn Dog . Genetic makeup 62.5% Bernese Mtn Dog/37.5% Poodle. This produces a Bernedoodle with a thicker build like a Bernese Mtn Dog and low to light shedding coat. We started planning this mix three years ago and had our first litter at the end of 2020.

Bernedoodle Furnishings -  Furnishings are the hair on a Bernedoodle's face. The fluffy face is from carrying a furnishing gene. If the puppy has one or two copies of the furnishing gene they'll have a fluffy face. When a puppy doesn't have a copy they'll have a smooth face like a Bernese Mtn Dog.

If the Bernedoodle sounds like it would be a great fit for your family and you have more questions please let me know.
